MARGAL Prototype Demonstration - Port Applications

Conclusions

The aim of the public demonstration and the information day was to raise the awareness of Galileo and EGNOS through the MarGal prototype. The demonstration performed on the 27th September 2005 clearly achieved this through the variety of discussions that were taking place during the day and with the information provided during the presentations early in the day. These presentations not only provided the audience with information on Galileo and EGNOS; they also introduced concepts where Galileo and EGNOS can help to resolve some very real problems, experienced by mariners as they enter ports all over the world.

From the questionnaire results it can be noted that the majority of those surveyed clearly felt that Galileo and EGNOS could be of benefit to the mariner when used with a system like the MarGal prototype. The concept of navigating traffic through a busy harbour area also raised an interesting debate that included the provision of data through AIS and other sources.

In general, the information day and demonstration was very successful in raising the awareness of Galileo and EGNOS as well as publising the work of the MarGal project.
