MARGAL Prototype Demonstration - Inland Waterways Applications
Conclusions / User Feedback
Usually, typical end users are not much interested in technical details of the equipment they use. They consider the equipment and the service respectively – more or less – as a black box and expect it to work whenever needed and to provide the intended output in sufficient quality and quantity. Their expectations are on the performance of the respective service.
In the MARGAL project feedback is not gathered from the end users only (e.g. users in the dispatcher centre), but also of stakeholders dealing with calamity abatement service based on RIS in the geographic regions investigated (e.g. authorities, skippers). Particularly in this context the study team needs to know what the various stakeholders are thinking about the benefit of implementing new safety related services based on EGNOS in the inland waterway domain. The information gathered is an important basis for future research and development activities.
A reason why different stakeholders are invited to give feedback is the fact that they are characterized by different interests and expertise. Thus, it is not sufficient just to consider individual users. Therefore the approach was to invite all of the participants of the public demo to give feedback via questionnaires distributed.
